The Friends of the Library were established in 1987 to support and promote the Timaru District Libraries. The Friends arrange and promote special events such as:

• Authors' and Storytellers' visits
• Book launches
• Creative writing competitions

As a Friend, you will receive

• Free admittance to members-only events as well as other library events
• An invitation to the pre-sale night of Timaru Library's Annual Book Sale
• Newsletters
• The sense of fulfilment that comes with supporting an important community institution
